Kyla Wilson Vangelder is a california based tryer of many things.

kyla is a skilled craftsperson and carpenter with experience building and maintaining communal campus and workshop spaces. they are invested in the work of land and community care - through cooking, handy work, emergency medical expertise, and mental health support. kyla is committed to the everyday behind-the-scenes work it takes to keep organizing spaces and communities running smoothly and sustainably while prioritizing equity and justice and the safety of marginalized communities.

kyla used to reside at the headlands center for the arts as a part of the facilities team and the on-call support for artists in residence. now kyla now splits their time between west sonoma county and east la and works as a fabricator and a freelance carpenter and handyperson. in sonoma county they completed a year and a half long contract helping to rebuild the historic timber frame barn at the occidental arts and ecology center. they maintain their personal practice of learning new crafts - they are currently fixated on spoon carving and hand tool woodwork, and sgraffito hand-built pottery.

kyla identifies as a fat, queer non-binary person and is particularly interested in work that carves space for other folks who are traditionally marginalized in the trades.

they are always interested in collaborations with other makers and are open to commissions. please reach out!
