Kyla Wilson Vangelder is a Bay Area based tryer of many things. They are skilled craftsperson and builder with experience building and maintaining communal campus and workshop spaces.
They are invested in the work of land and community care - through cooking, handy work, emergency medical expertise, and mental health support. They are committed to the everyday behind the scenes work it takes to keep organizing spaces and communities running smoothly and sustainably while prioritizing equity and justice and the safety of marginalized communities.
They used to reside at the Headlands Center for the Arts as a part of the facilities team and the on-call support for Artists in Residence. Now Kyla lives in Sonoma County and just completed a year and a half long contract helping to rebuild the historic timber frame barn at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center. They maintain their personal practice of learning new crafts - they are currently fixated on spoon carving and hand tool woodwork, and sgraffito hand built pottery.
They are always interested in collaborations with other makers and are open to commissions.
